I MET STAN LEE!

That's right, I finally got to meet the man, the legend, the generalissimo - Stan Lee. It was amazing. I just wish I had more time to talk to him so I could properly geek out in front of him, but they had to keep the line moving and give everyone a chance to get their photo.

I actually had a ticket to see him a few years ago when I was a freshman in college, but at the last minute I had to cancel because I had a project due for class. I have regretted not going ever since - how could I think school was more important than the man behind Marvel? Well that decision doesn't have to haunt me anymore, because I have now stood next to an icon and I have the photo to prove it.

Cincinnati Comic Expo 2013

The Cincinnati Comic Expo was a blast this year. I had such a great time with Lee and Janae there, hanging out with like-minded comic fans. There were some talented artists and some great costumes to see - including a home-made Iron Man suit with LEDs that lit up and a moving faceplate. The highlights for me were definitely meeting Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Billy the Blue Ranger (David Yost). They were both super nice and I had fun talking to both of them. Nicholas Brendon was exactly how you think Xander would be in real life - and he hugged both of us before the photo! David Yost seems like a fun guy, too and he even put his hand on my shoulder and said "Nate, I think you're pretty morphenomenal."
It's always great to do a convention and show my artwork to people. Lee and I had a pretty successful weekend selling our work and we're thinking about trying to do more shows next year.

MMPR: the Blue Ranger

Last year I got to meet Jason David Frank (Tommy, the Green Ranger) at Cincinnati Comic Expo. This year I will get to meet David Yost (Billy, the Blue Ranger). I'm so excited to meet another one of my childhood heroes!

Update: Cyclops

When I made my poster of Cyclops, I originally went with his modern Astonishing costume, but I was never quite satisfied with the way it looked. Even though he has spent most of his career wearing a hood, my natural instict with Cyke is to have his hair showing like the Jim Lee costume I grew up with. I thought about going with a 90s style costume for him, but I felt obligated to use his modern costume. Well, after updating Beast with a more classic costume and realizing that Cyclops isn't even wearing his Astonishing costume anymore, I went back to him and gave him the look I wanted for him. I did keep a few more modern things - he isn't wearing any yellow underwear - but I prefer the hair over the hood and the blue over the black. Now that I made these updates, I am finally happy with him.

QUOTE: In My Head

I actually bought Lullabies to Paralyze so I could put this song on a mix CD for Janae. I had always liked what I heard from them, but I was instantly hooked when I heard this album for the first time. Since then, we have both become huge Queens of the Stone Age fans and we're about to see them in concert for the second time.

Draw Every Day 181-190

This batch covers when I hit my half-way through the year mark and asked for suggestions on what characters I still needed to draw. I got some fun suggestions and started working my way through them, including Silver Surfer, Professor Xavier, Blue Beetle and Cheshire.
