Litte 90s X-Villiains

All of my little 90s X-Men are finished up, including the villains. I may do some more in the future to fill out the team and do a few more fan favorites. All of these are available as shirts on my TeePublic site where they're still on sale this weekend.

More Little 90s X-Men

I hope you guys are liking these. I'm thinking about turning these into some t-shirt designs and a big group poster. Who are your favorite X-Men?

Little 90s X-Men

I was able to turn these little guys around pretty quickly. I love how they came out. You can definitely expect to see more members of the team in this style.

Inktober 2015 - Little 90s X-Men part 3

What good are heroes without their villains? Here are a few of my favorites. I still kept their designs based on the 90s cartoon show, which are also their most classic looks if you ask me.

Inktober 2015 - Little 90s X-Men part 2

I've still been working through the X-Team from the 90s cartoon, which has been super fun because it is probably my favorite team. Here are a few of the more responsible members.

Inktober 2015 - Little 90s X-Men

One of the big things I'm working on this Inktober is a series of X-Men characters based off their looks in the 1992 cartoon show. These are for that commission I mentioned in my last post and they really wanted to see Gambit, so that's who I started with.

Inktober 2015

Last year was the first time I participated in Inktober -- a drawing challenge where you create an ink drawing for every day in October. It was definitely challenging, but I managed to do the full 'marathon'. This year, I'm hoping I can pull off just a half-marathon or even just the 5k. I have a lot of new commissions to work on, so I'm trying to keep those at the top of my priority list. One of those commissions will involve working with a more childlike chibi style, so I thought I'd test drive it for Day 01 with a self portrait.

I realized while posting this that I didn't add any of my Inktober drawings from last year to the blog. I guess I'll have to do a little backtracking!

Assembling - Black Panther

If you know me, it's no secret that I love Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It is one of the best super hero cartoon shows and it taught me a lot about the greater Marvel universe. I also absolutely love the character designs for it. Thomas Perkins did an outstanding job combining classic costumes with modern elements and giving everything a crisp look. That show was my biggest inspiration for Black Panther's costume. It's one of the few Panther designs that does anything with the costume besides just making it totally black. The shape of the highlights on his face give a vaguely catlike appearance and bring a lot more personality to the design.

Assembling - Vision

Vision really stole the third act of Age of Ultron. Paul Bettany did an awesome job and Vision got some of the best scenes. His showdown with the final Ultron is one of the simplest encounters, but possibly my favorite. For his look here, I went with his traditional high-collar cape, but a more modern costume design based around the diamond on his chest.

Avengers Assembled

My team of Avengers is finally assembled! This will be one of my new prints at conventions this year and you can buy it right now as a t-shirt for only $14 on my TeePublic shop!

I'll keep posting the individual characters and the design decisions that went into them, so go buy a shirt and check back for more updates.

Assembling - Quicksilver

When I was drawing Quicksilver I realized that I'm not really a big fan of most of his costumes. The old ones all feel too dated (diagonal zig zag and black underwear) and his newest costume doesn't quite look like the character to me. I took a lot of inspiration from his Age of Ultron look, but tried to make it more of a super hero costume instead of athletic wear. I also liked the idea of him having stubble since there aren't too many characters that can get away with it.

Assembling - Scarlet Witch

I honestly didn't expect to like Wanda or Pietro very much in Age of Ultron, but boy was I wrong. They were both such great additions and Wanda especially was a scene stealer. I went with more of her modern look, even taking some influence by some proposed movie designs, and of course had to include that head piece. Is there a name for that thing? It's definitely not a mask. Anyway, I wanted to avoid the pink body suit and red corset combo, so I went with the newer jacket look.

Assembling - Hawkeye

I prefer Hawkeye's classic costume, but I did try to update it a little. I like that his more modern costume uses a chevron to represent movement and the arrowhead, but his modern costume is a little too black and "practical" for me. I went with a sleeveless version of his traditional costume but used the chevron where his (admittedly ridiculous) mask attaches to the rest of his costume.

Assembling - Black Widow

Black Widow has had a pretty consistent costume over the years with minor changes here or there. The thing that seems to change most is her hairstyle. Even in the movies she changes it every time we see her. I went with longer hair and I like to draw it draping over one eye. I think it helps give her a bit more of a mysterious look.

Nate Xopher Art Stores

Hey everybody, I have a ton of artwork for sale online but it's spread out over a few different stores. To help keep it easy, here's a list of my different shops. Thanks for shopping!

Assembling - Hulk

Hulk doesn't have a ton of costume options, but I do like the idea of him getting more of a uniform instead of just pants that he rips through each time he transforms. I like the idea of Hulk having some control over himself for the greater good of the team.

6.07.2015

Assembling - Thor

Thor is one of my favorite Avengers and I have a lot of fun drawing him. I try to make him even bigger than the typical guys like Cap so he seems even more godlike. I've finally switched over to the full metal helmet instead of the feathery wings. It allows me to keep him more streamlined and angular and I don't have to try to figure out where the wings attach to the metal. Some of his costume elements were actually inspired by his look for Disney Infinity.

6.02.2015

Assembling - Iron Man

Iron Man is a great character, but not one I like to draw very often. I've never been comfortable drawing more mechanical characters like him, even with my more geometric style. I do really like the way this drawing came out, though. I took inspiration from a lot of his more recent armors, including ones from the movies.

Assembling - Captain America

For my Captain America design, I pull a lot from Earth's Mightiest Heroes -- with the black shadowing around his face leaving gaps to indicate his eyebrows. I also try to incorporate a little of his more modern costume elements including the gray side panels and stars on his shoulders. I prefer the more traditional mask over the helmet with chinstrap though.

Daredevil Mug Shot

Get up close and personal with the Man Without Fear. Daredevil is my newest design for my TeePublic shop because I'm still amazed by his Netflix show. Be sure to grab one of these shirts this weekend while they're still just $14!

Earthworm Jim

I think every kid in the 90s loved Earthworm Jim. There's just so much weird, random stuff in it that made it so fun as a video game and a cartoon. I love those properties that just always do whatever they want. So here's my take on Jim and Snott.

Down to My Bones

Underneath it all, we're just bones.

I thought this would be pretty cool visually to see both the inside and the outside. Plus, I've been inthe mood to use cyan and magenta lately.

You can buy this design as a print, poster, t-shirt, coffee mug, laptop case, phone case and probably some other things too. Check it all out on my society6 shop.
